And since we are an all volunteer organization (no employees), we did not qualify for any PPP Loans/assistance. It would be a HUGE help if you could support us on the Big Day of Giving. Please support us with a donation of any size. Thank you very much for your generosity and support!

We understand that times are tough for many. If you can’t donate now, perhaps you could ask any friends who can donate, to help us. On behalf of all the kitties (and pups) that we have helped and will continue to help, THANK YOU!

Friends, we have a confession to make… we have a soft spot for the pathetic medical cases. If our entire rescue could consist of three legged, one eyed, deaf animals with awkward social skills, we probably would. Unfortunately, we would bankrupt the rescue and be useless to everyone. We try to balance the medical cases with plenty of healthy cats/dogs for adoption in order to help fund the expensive medical care. At this point, we have three cats requiring far more than the $60-$90 adoption fee would ever cover.

Blink was a tiny kitten with a nasty eye infection that was treated too late. The vet determined that the only course of treatment would be to remove it. At the tender age of 7 weeks old, she underwent a life-changing surgery for any cat, let alone a little squirt like her. Several weeks later, she is adjusting just fine and is back to being her bubbly, kitten self!

Freddy is a new dude that we are taking into our care first thing in the morning. His paws are raw, oozing, painful and can’t seem to heal. We haven’t laid eyes on him yet but it would appear that he may need to be anesthetized and have his wounds cleaned and wrapped.

Finally, Polly was returned to us 6 years after she was adopted. We thought she had an ear infection that just wouldn’t go away. Instead, the vet determined that she has a polyp buried as far down into her ear canal as it can get. Her blood work was already done and now we are working towards getting her X-rays before we go through the expensive and risky surgery to relieve her pain and restore her quality of life.

We know that these cases are quite the undertaking when all at the same time, but we don’t care. We are doing it because we can. Because we know that we have a fabulous network of supporters that help us to continue to help the helpless. Sure, we would much rather post endless “happy endings” with cute, cuddly kittens finding homes. The truth is, we do have those. Lots of those. Sometimes it’s easier to focus on those happy stories than to think about those that are homeless and suffering. We believe that a balance keeps our hearts realistic and encouraged to keep going. If you are able to help us with our journey to get these three the care that they need, you can donate via our PayPal at https://catsabouttown.org/category/featured/. If you cannot donate, you can share their story and, if nothing else, help them find their forever homes once they are medically cleared. Please send these three your prayers, especially Freddy who is finally going to get the care that he has needed for months tomorrow morning.

For those following Freddy’s journey. Here are the results of his surgery! Thank you all so much for your generous donations. What we have gathered so far will all be put towards the almost $1500 in vet bills that we have incurred from these three medical cases!

For those wondering about Freddy’s history, here’s what Detective Andrea uncovered today…

Freddy’s original name was Maximillian. In 2014, he was rescued in Sacramento by a Good Samaritan when he was six months old and neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and tested for FeLV/FIV. It was discovered that he was FIV+. The Good Sam found a home with a nursing student who lived down the street.

A few years later, Maximillian, renamed Kimchee, went missing. He was found and reunited with the Good Sam due to the microchip registration. Against the Good Sam’s better judgment, she returned Max/Kimchee to the adopter.

Towards the beginning of this year, he showed up at an apartment complex and was fed by residents as this boy appeared to be a stray. We figured out that the adopter lives in this complex but wasn’t taking care of him. Neighbors noticed in May that he had developed a wound on his paw that wasn’t healing. This wound worsened and, eventually, the other paw started to look the same way. After months of pain, we were contacted last night to help this dude and we couldn’t say no. The timing was perfect as we were already heading up to Animal Outreach this morning and Max/Kimchee, now Freddy is able to keep his paws and get his wounds treated.

The best part of the whole story? One of the residents who had been caring for Freddy will be adopting him once his stitches are out and, most importantly, KEEP HIM INSIDE AND SAFE!!!

Calling all Friends of Cats About Town Society…WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Both our van and our retired ambulance have bit the dust and are no longer running. The cost to get either vehicle working, outweighs the value at this point.

Do you know of anyone who has a vehicle they would be willing to donate to C.A.T.S.? If so, please get in contact with Suna at 916-224-1999 or suna@CatsAboutTown.org as soon as possible! Here is the ideal vehicle donation:

Van or large SUV

8 years old or less

Working air conditioning and heater for front and cargo areas

Decent working condition

And here is what we can work with:

Any vehicle with a large capacity for transporting 10-20 pet carriers

Can be non-operational (if our mechanic is able to do the repairs, we can use it)

Here are the benefits to all involved:

Tax deductible donation. C.A.T.S. is a 501(c)3 organization.

A vehicle donation will enable CATS to continue our affordable medical services (dental surgeries and spay/neuter surgeries). We rely on our volunteers and a working vehicle to transport animals to the vet hospitals that we work with. Without a reliable vehicle, we will no longer be able to offer these services.

If you don’t know of a vehicle donation, would you be willing to donate to the cause of buying or repairing a used vehicle? We will likely have to either do some major repairs on a donated vehicle or purchase a used vehicle. Any amount will help! Please and thank you!!!

Adopted cat: Olivia (formerly Marilyn)

Adopted from: Natomas Petsmart during a weekend adoption event

Cat type: 6-month old female tabby kitten

I just wanted to thank Livia’s foster mom Jen and all the Cats About Town folks for the gift of Olivia. Though I considered adopting a kitten from various shelters in Sacramento, I decided to adopt from Cats About Town because the adoption fee included spaying, as well as screening for FeLV, and an initial vet check (all of which would have been more expensive for me to have done at my vet)—ensuring my new kitten was healthy, and because having met her foster mother (Jen) at the adoption event, I knew my kitten Livia had been well-care for, loved, and even socialized to other cats when I adopted her. Her foster mama knew Livia’s medical history, which she shared with me, gave me advice on how to introduce her to my current older cat, Prothero, and graciously provided me with her contact email so I could ask questions if I had any, and to send her updates on Livia’s progress.

Though her foster mama claimed Livia would be shy at first, Olivia warmed up to me within an hour of getting her home and settled. In fact, how quickly and thoroughly she adjusted to me and to her new home was a testament to how well her foster mother must have loved her. She had a good appetite, knew what to do with the litter box, was curious, full of affection, had tremendous energy, and her physical appearance was obviously that of a healthy animal.
Though it was an exercise in patience to convince my Prothero to accept Livia, now that a month has passed, Livia’s playfulness and longing has now won over my Prothie—who came to me as a stray with no previous socialization to other cats. Though Livia’s tremendous kitten energy can sometimes overwhelm him, they now happily sleep close to each other on my bed and this neutered tomcat, who is easily twice her size, has even begun grooming her regularly.

Thank you so much for being such a great organization, and for caring so well for all the animals in your care. Your foster parents are to be commended for their love and commitment!

Sincerely, Megan

I wanted to just say thank you soooooooo very much again for finding Hannah for me. She has made me absolutely soooooooo very happy. She is actually sitting here with me right now as I write this. I love her so much. She has really taken to life well around here. She comes anytime I call her, she plays tag with the dogs when she feels frisky, she follows me all around the house and if she is being lazy and doesn’t want to come she will just meow a few times to let me know she heard me. Amazingly she gets along with everybody except our other cat…..which is fine because the other cat is in the garage and doesn’t come in the house anyway-so they very rarely get a look at each other.

She isn’t supposed to be on the counter but she knows if she gets up there then I will pick her up and give her a lot of love before I put her back down on the floor……she is so funny and has me totally wired. She has the best personality and I just can’t convey enough how great she is.

– Sheila
