Cats About Town Society Offers Low Cost Dental Surgery for Cats & Dogs

C.A.T.S. is proud to offer Sacramento’s first low-cost dental option for cats. In an effort to fight the rising cost of veterinary care, we are offering deep discounts for dental surgeries. This offer is currently only open to friends and family of C.A.T.S. This service is available for domestic cats and dogs up to 30 pounds. (We may be able to accommodate dogs 30 to 50 pounds, but there are additional fees and requirements. Fill out a request form and indicate the dog’s weight). Your cat or dog must be spayed or neutered and in good health and fit for surgery. We require a pre-exam and possibly require labwork (most likely for cats/dogs over 10 years old). The pre-exam is inclued in the price of the dental surgery if no labwork is required and $150 if labwork is required. You may order labwork through us or through your vet of choice. If you get the labwork done elsewhere, we simply need a copy of it to send to our clinic during the pre-exam.

Pricing/ Payment is as follows:

  • $ 950 Dental Surgery: includes full mouth cleaning and extractions as deemed necessary by our vet (FLAT FEE)
  • $ 150 for Pre-exam and labwork if deemed required due to age (8 years or older or pre-existing medical condition)
  • $  10 if you need to rent a hard-sided carrier
  • Our accepted methods of payment, upon confirmation, are Cash or Venmo

This is comparable to surgeries that routinely cost $1,800-$3,000 at regular vet hospitals. Most (all other) places will provide you with a price estimate RANGE. Because of the nature of dental surgeries, it is virtually impossible to provide an exact estimate for the final price of surgery. Why is this? Because, you can’t tell a cat or dog to “say “ahhhhh” and get a good assessment of what is a necessary treatment. It is only once they are unconscious that we can literally poke around in their moths and truly assess which teeth ( if any) need to be removed.

We are trying something new – a reasonable flat rate. Unlike any other vet hospital, we do not base our pricing on the number/ difficulty of extractions. How are we able to do this? Well, like I said, this is an experiment on our part. After years of offering affordable dental surgeries, we have a good sense of the cost of everything involved. So we feel comfortable giving this a try. If it absolutely is a fail, we will go back to our previous method of pricing.

Please note: if your cat/dog needs a full mouth extraction (42 teeth for dogs and 30 teeth for cats), it will likely take 2 separate surgeries to accomplish. The reasons for breaking this up into 2 separate surgeries:

  1. It’s just too many teeth to remove in one sitting. Any longer than 3 hours for surgeries and the risk goes way up and the potential trauma to your cat/dog is just too much.
  2. Canine (eye teeth) in particular can be very challenging, time-consuming and dangerous to remove. These teeth are VERY LONG. They are almost twice as long below the gum-line vs. what is visible to us. If these need to come out, it’s best to have a separate surgery just for these. The incisors may be pulled at the same time as the canines because they are pretty small and easy to remove, but that’s it.

Support for our cat and dog Rescue organization: any profit that is made from these surgeries, goes toward the cats and dogs in our care. Cats About Town Society is a no-kill animal rescue group run soley on volunteer-power. We have no paid staff, so every dollar goes toward the care of our cats and dogs.
